I was up until 2am last night reading The Fault in Our Stars straight through. I laughed a lot, but I cried a lot more. The meditation on the significance of the insignificant, and how to be at peace with the faults of the universe has something I’ve been trying to express for a long time.
It’s why contributing to This I Believe is on my Mighty Life list, why I find photos of deep space both terrifying and comforting, and why I lay awake for a long time after reading this luminous books, snuggled against my spouse, watching the flickering lights of the city snowplows go back and forth across my bedroom window - flaring out and fading. Clearing a path that will not last forever, but that I can use today.
